Community Care & Development Program

The Archbishop’s Community Care and Development Program (CCDP) began in 1934 and was known for many years as the Archbishop of Sydney’s Winter Appeal. Today, CCDP works in partnership with seventeen parishes in greater metropolitan Sydney that are reaching out to show the love of Jesus to those living on the margins in their communities.

In response to scriptural injunctions to show practical love and support for the oppressed and those in need, CCDP seeks to facilitate parish and diocesan outreach to those who suffer the effects of poverty. Whilst providing some support for projects involved with welfare and emergency relief, CCDP encourages projects toward adopting a community development approach in their programs. This is a process of partnering with people in the community over the long-term and encouraging their participation at all levels of the program as they work together for lasting change.

Prayer Points

1. Pray for churches and leadership, for love and compassion as they reach out to their local community.

2. Pray for wisdom, perseverance and joy for the project coordinators and volunteers.

3. Pray for those who participate in the various programs, that they will find new direction and hope in their lives.
