Community Care & Development Program
The Archbishop’s Community Care and Development Program (CCDP) began in 1934 and was known for many years as the Archbishop of Sydney’s Winter Appeal. Today, CCDP works in partnership with seventeen parishes in greater metropolitan Sydney that are reaching out to show the love of Jesus to those living on the margins in their communities.
In response to scriptural injunctions to show practical love and support for the oppressed and those in need, CCDP seeks to facilitate parish and diocesan outreach to those who suffer the effects of poverty. Whilst providing some support for projects involved with welfare and emergency relief, CCDP encourages projects toward adopting a community development approach in their programs. This is a process of partnering with people in the community over the long-term and encouraging their participation at all levels of the program as they work together for lasting change.

Georges River Region: Community Support for Refugees
CCDP supports the Georges River Regional Council in a regional ministry of developing and maintaining a voluntary support network for newly arrived refugee families in Sydney.

The aim of the Riverwood Lunch and Leisure Club is to reduce social isolation and marginalisation of people with mental illness who live in Riverwood and surrounding communities.

The Anglican church in Campsie is located in one of Sydney’s most ethnically diverse areas and the church continues to develop its contacts with the Campsie community. The church, through the New Settler Program is engaged in a variety of activities relating to the special needs of newly arrived migrants.

Many of the women in the public housing sector of the Sadleir region have faced significant trauma along with having high dependency issues.By providing these women and other women in the community with physical and emotional support, the program aims to prevent life breakdowns and overcome isolation.

In a small group environment, the program seeks to provide mentoring, life skills and team activities for teenage girls and boys, together with opportunities to care for others.

Break the Cycle currently offers an Emergency Relief Program to provide effective assistance to people in crisis / need / hardship. BTC is also involved in other initiatives in the community, running various programmes through community cottages in the local area.

The NILS program began after project workers with the Legal Centre and Break The Cycle realised that many people in the community were unable to access affordable credit for basic white goods.
